Staying Healthy as a Weekend Warrior

Phoenix springs are made for weekend sports, right? Thoughts on overdoing it and how to avoid these weekend injuries!

These spring and summer weekends are made for fun, right? Often, we overdo the physical activity and pay for it, don't we!

While it may be difficult to exercise during the week, overdoing it or trying to cram lots of physical activity into one weekend can result in injuries, or lead to vulnerabilities due to lack of strength and consistency.

Common weekend warrior injuries include:

  • Ankle sprains/strains
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Shin splints
  • Pulled groin
  • Hamstring stains
  • Knee injuries

If you love weekend activities, be sure to be active during the week as well, at least every other day to keep in shape.

Don't push yourself too far or do too much. Set realistic goals.

Prepare your body for the activity with appropriate conditioning, stretching and warming up.

Listen to your body for signs of fatigue or pain and slow down or stop.
