Although most of us deal with our declining health when we get older, we at Kimel Chiropractic believe that health comes naturally to us when we are born. Unfortunately, our environment and our choices erode it over time. So really the time to start protecting it is as early as possible. Chiropractic can help to optimize how you and your child's body handle day to day events and stresses. On this page we have posted some links about your child's health and some natural, holistic ways you can promote healing. We hope to be a source of reference for you and your family.
1. Why would a child need a chiropractor?
One of the most common reasons parents seek care for their child is trauma from an injury of some sort. How many times has your child fell down in the last week, let alone in there lifetime. These misalignments may or may not result in immediate pain or symptoms. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from these traumas, make the correction early in life and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults. Proper spinal hygiene is an important key to better health.
If you have a child who is chronically sick with ear infections, colds, colic or any other reoccurring symptom, you have a child whose body is trying to send a signal that something is not right. The common approach for our society is to focus on these symptoms as the problem themselves.
Chiropractic historically has a vitalistic approach where in, the symptom is not there to be treated but to leave clues as to why the body is not able to defend and maintain itself. These defenses are overwhelmed by physical, chemical and emotional stresses. Our job is then to help you address these stressors to allow the body to return to its normal healthy function.
2. Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is actually one of the safest healthcare professions around due to the absence of the use of drugs and surgeries. Please understand that a child’s spine is still mostly cartilage, still forming and is suppler than an adult’s spine. Therefore a much gentler adjustment is required to achieve the same results. We don’t crack and twist, it just isn’t necessary.
3. When should a child be checked by a chiropractor?
Prevention is a much simpler process than addressing a problem after it’s occurred. A well visit check is recommended early in the child’s life. Since a baby’s spine grows over 50% in length during the first year it is wise to check a child’s spine and nervous system so that they have the best chance at a healthy development.
4. What if my child has a health issue that doesn’t respond to chiropractic?
Our primary concern is your child’s health. Chiropractors are trained to recognize complex health problems. If your child is in need of further follow up by another health discipline we will definitely refer out so your child can receive proper care.
